ABOUT ADÉDÈJÌ
Nigerian singer, guitarist, and composer Adédèjì Adetayo began his musical journey in his father’s church choir in Lagos at age 6, becoming choir leader by 10 and a sought-after studio singer by 13, collaborating with prominent Nigerian artists. At 15, he picked up the guitar and later pursued formal music studies at institutions like Muson College, The Polytechnic of Ibadan, the University of Lagos, the London College of Music, and the Prins Claus Conservatory in the Netherlands.
A prolific performer, he has worked with legends such as Tony Allen, Lionel Loueke, and Lagbaja, while opening for Manu Dibango and Kenny Garrett. Adédèjì’s debut album Ajo won the North Netherlands Young Talent Award in 2012, and his follow-up Afreekanism earned the LBM Awards’ Best Afro Fusion Artist in 2017.
His latest album, Yoruba Odyssey, recorded at Lagos’ legendary Afrodisia/Decca Studio, is a vibrant 10-track Jazz-Funk project infused with Afrobeat, Yoruba sounds, and influences from soul, blues, funk, and gospel, reflecting his Lagos upbringing and featuring tight arrangements, rich harmonies, and stellar contributions from Nigeria’s finest musicians.
