GEORGIA DAGAKI

ABOUT GEORGIA DAGAKI

For Georgia Dagaki, introductions are unnecessary. In the last 20 years she has marked Greek music with her songs, her favorite Cretan lyre, her hundreds of appearances, her unique collaborations with Greek and international artists such as Eric Burdon and the Animals, Goran Bregovic, the Violent Femmes etc. Those who know Georgia well, also know that she is a musician who never gets complacent and the product of such concern is the EP "Short Distance", from which we recently got a taste with the first single "Matala".

"For me, it always seemed like a 'small distance' to be able to unite my favorite musical worlds" she tells us about her new release.

"Worlds that reflect yesterday and today and that eventually blend so harmoniously between them in the now, as if they had always existed. The way I perceive Cretan music and the psychedelia it carries for me, was and will always be special to my ears and here it is revealed in the best way. I have long been looking for a new dimension that will bring the Cretan lyre close to western ways and sounds, to electronic music, to the beat, without losing its intense, dynamic and unchanging character. The original idea of Panos Georgopoulos piqued my interest and we began through our live performances to experiment in this context long before we presented you with the very first samples. I'm very happy that the early indications are that it's finding an audience response, at a time when we all eventually need to get lost in a dreamy state for a while. This record, "Short Distance", does that.

The names of the songs come from my favorite places-villages of Crete, Rethymnon of Chania and Heraklion, in a need to present them to you and I urge you to visit them while listening to ``Short Distance'' of course.”
