KANARYA

The Kanarya were born in Chania in the autumn of 2021 and have been traveling ever since, performing traditional songs from various musical neighborhoods of Greece, Turkey, and the Balkans. Like everything else, traditional music does not remain unchanged across space and time. On the contrary, it is shaped and transformed as it travels through the ages.
In this spirit, the Kanaria approach it anew with respect, rendering it as close as possible to its authentic form, which at times is interwoven with more contemporary patterns of experimentation, adding elements of the present day. Their goal is the revival of tradition through music and dance, as well as the interaction among musicians, dancers, and spectators to create a true celebration.
A feast, then—a festival that reminds us once again of life in a community, in a village, a return to our roots.
They perform either as a duo or as a full band.
