NIGHT FLIGHT

ABOUT NIGHT FLIGHT

Kelly Thoma is a lyra player and composer of contemporary modal music who through decades of apprenticeship and experience at the Labyrinth Music Workshop in Crete creates and explores a new sound, making music with influences from various traditions, but also her own musical world that is not localized in time and geography.

Having had the great musician and composer Ross Daly as a teacher since 1995, as well as dozens of other musicians from various places, she gives importance to the creative approach of traditional music and the timelessness of the art.

Since 1998 she has been travelling with Ross Daly and his band “Labyrinth” and through this experience she has collaborated with renowned musicians of various traditions of the world, which has contributed significantly to the formation of the special sound that characterizes her playing. She has collaborated with very important names in the world’s traditional music scene such as Djamchid, Bijan and Keyvan Chemirani, Zohar Fresco, Pedram Khavar Zamini, Efrén López, Dhruba Ghosh, Ballake Sissoko, Mayu Shviro, Yurdal Tokcan, Shubhankar Banerjee, Ahmet and Omer Erdogdular, Huun Huur Tu and many others.
Since 2008 she has been collaborating with the Norway-based string quartet Tokso , making music influenced by – among other things – Celtic and Scandinavian traditions. He has performed at major theatres and festivals such as Theatre de la Ville, Carnegie Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Melbourne Festival, Berliner Philarmoniker, Thessaloniki Concert Hall, Athens Concert Hall, Herodeion and many others.
