REBETI

The music ensemble Rebeti (formerly known as Rebetien), with a continuous presence over the past 16 years, consists of Fotis Vergopoulos, Avgerini Gatsi, Giannis Katos, and Kostis Kostakis—musicians with a strong background in the ethnic and Greek folk (laiko) music scene, both collectively and through their individual discography.

United by a shared vision of freedom in musical expression, while drawing from both common and diverse influences, the group shapes a distinctive sound and approach. Their repertoire brings together pre-war and post-war rebetiko, laiko songs, as well as contemporary pieces—both their own compositions and works by other composers—often presented through their own unique interpretations.

Rebetiko remains at the core of their performances, while leaving significant space for improvisation, a defining element of Mediterranean music throughout the years. Their live appearances offer the audience a rich and engaging musical journey.

The ensemble has participated in major festivals and events around the world—including Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia—through concerts, seminars, and numerous television appearances, building a dedicated international audience over the years.
